What is the EPAX Research Grant?

To celebrate the launch of EPAX® Cetoleic 2040, the world's first pure LC-MUFA concentrate rich in Omega-9 (gondoic acid) and Omega-11 (cetoleic acid), Epax is launching the EPAX Research Grant in Marine LC-MUFAs.

The EPAX Research Grant reflects Epax's long-standing commitment to advancing lipid science through investigator-led clinical research and aims to accelerate the development of knowledge in the emerging field of marine LC-MUFAs. The grant aims to stimulate high-quality clinical research and expand scientific understanding of the potential health benefits of marine long-chain monounsaturated fatty acids (LC-MUFAs).

The winning proposal will receive:  

• €100,000 research grant
• Supply of oil or capsules of EPAX Cetoleic 2040, placebo, EPAX Omega 3-9-11 or Omega 3 concentrate (subject to availability) as requested by the proposal.  
• Technical support related to the study product

Who can apply?

The grant is open to universities, academic hospitals and other non-profit research organizations.

How do I apply?

Applications should propose a human clinical intervention study investigating the effects of marine LC-MUFAs as nutritional ingredients or dietary supplements.  

Proposals should be in English using the online application form below.

Researchers are free to submit proposals within their area of expertise. Potential areas of interest include cardiovascular health, metabolic health, healthy ageing, inflammation, cognitive function, skin health, physical performance and other nutrition-related outcomes. Randomised, blinded studies are preferred.

Applications will be evaluated based on:

• Scientific quality and innovation
• Relevance to marine LC-MUFA research
• Feasibility and study design
• Qualifications of the research team
• Suitability of studies for nutritional uses of marine LC-MUFAs  

Selected candidates may be asked for a presentation and discussion with Epax via a Teams meeting as part of the selection process.  

Epax’s decision on the winning proposal will be final and not subject to appeal.

The winning proposal and research team will be made public (e.g., posted on the Epax website). All other candidates and proposals will be treated confidentially.  

Timeline

• 13^th October 2026: Launch of call for proposals
• 31^st December 2026: Submission deadline
• 1^st March 2027:  Grant winner announced
• May 2027: Study agreement execution and development of the final study protocol in collaboration with Epax
• December 2028: Study completion with a report and scientific paper submitted for publication.
